Passionate for God
Lately the Lord has been impressing upon me the importance of living a passionate life for Him. I have just began reading the book “Passionate Housewives Desperate for God” by Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald. (We have it available in our bookstore at www.godseternalmasterpiece.com for those of you who also would like to get a copy of this excellent book.) The authors emphasize that God’s Word has all the wisdom we need to be the passionate women God wants us to be. Colossians 2:3 states, “In Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”. Yet, how many days go by when I am too busy to search God’s Word as I should for that wisdom? Too many, I daresay. Many times I find myself getting out of bed in the morning with a mile-long to-do list in my mind and yet, devotions and time with the Lord aren’t at the top of that list like they should be. That must deeply sadden my Lord.
That point was driven home strongly to me today when my youngest daughter came up to me and asked if I ever am going to start school with her. “I want to spend time with you and get to know you better, Mommy” she said. Ouch! The storytimes on the couch and the quick conversations throughout the day just weren’t enough. That made me think about how many times God is asking the same question of me. He yearns for time with me each day. I also have wondered if I’m passionate about mirroring Christ in my life or if I’m just “getting by”.
God has an abundant life of joy and blessing available for us if we just seek Him and serve Him without excuses, without reservation, and without doubts. I yearn to be the housewife portrayed in Proverbs 31 - one who is guiding her family in the ways of the Lord, one who portrays Christ in her community, and one who is blessed of the Lord. As I am seeking to do this through a closer relationship with my heavenly father and daily devotions, my prayers resembles that of Psalm 119:33-40.
Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes, and I shall keep it unto the end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
Incline my heart unto thy testmonies, and not to covetousness.
Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity, and revive thou me in thy way.
Establish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.
Turn away my reproach which I fear; for thine ordinances are good.
Behold, I have longed after thy precepts; give me life in thy righteousness.
